Description
Summary:Injection molding is a cyclical process where a heat softened plastic material is introduced into a relatively cool mold where it solidifies and takes the shape of the mold cavity. The process was first developed in 1872 based on a ram and plunger arrangement which was subsequently modified to a reciprocating screw setup so as to obtain a more homogeneous plastic mix to be injected into the mold. Currently, most injection molding machines adopt the reciprocating screw action to produce plastic parts. Such injection molding processes are deemed to be conventional.
