Description
Summary:This project deals with the design of a plastic wine-bottle opener and the design of plastic injection moulds for its production. The UniGraphics II (UGII) CAD/CAM system and Moldflow CAE package were used in the design and analysis of the proposed opener and moulds. Various types of plastic materials were analyzed and several were selected for different parts of the opener. The final assembly uses three different plastic materials: ABS, Acetal and Nylon. Engineering analysis was done on critical components to ensure that the opener has sufficient strength to perform its task. Design for Assembly (DFA) analysis was also conducted on both metal and plastic openers. The result shows that the new design has higher assembly efficiency than the old design that uses metal.
