Summary: | The rapid development of IC industry has given rise to the requirement on the properties of substrate materials such as thermal expansion, dielectric strength, etc. Tape Casting offers the opportunity of producing these advanced substrate materials cost effectively and efficiently. This study was carried out using a self-designed tape casting bench that has an accurate blade height setting and various casting speeds. Initially the research work commenced with a conventional alumina based ceramic system to ensure that the tape casting process and characterization were thoroughly understood. As the process requires ceramic slurry of accurate viscosity, the percentages of solvents and organic additives used were high (more than 50%). After the investigation of the effects of different cast settings, optimal casting parameters were obtained. |
