The development of this diagnostic system is an effort to provide an objective and cost effective approach to aid clinical practitioners in the diagnosis or screening of Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMD). This proposed diagnostic system comprises a knowledge database based on current clinical practices in the examination of TMD and a recently developed technique using electronic recording of TMJ sounds. Another feature of the diagnostic system is easier management and documentation of patient information. This would eventually provide better comparison of TMD diagnosis result between different clinicians or among different sessions.
