Description
Summary:The manufacture of semi-solid aluminium alloy components through thixocasting is gaining increasing acceptance in the industry. Processed in its semi-solid state, such alloys yield components which are nearer to net shape, with better structural integrity owing to less entrapped shrinkage and gas porosities, and are fully heat treatable. However, not much is understood of the process owing to the lack of experimental data on the rheology of semi-solid materials under such flow conditions. This work documents the results of research work which serves to close this gap.
