Four rotor Atkinson cycle internal combustion engine

Presently, the piston-type Otto cycle and Diesel cycle engines suffer from two fundamental disadvantages, namely, their non-rotary mechanism and their inability to provide an expansion ratio greater than the compression ratio. The Atkinson cycle is a modification of the Otto cycle wherein the combus...

The Atkinson cycle is a modification of the Otto cycle wherein the combustion gasses are allowed to expand to atmospheric pressure before being exhausted out of the engine. Thermodynamic analysis of this cycle shows that there is potential for thermal efficiency gain over the Otto cycles.
