Summary: | Decision making is a process of choosing among some alternatives in order to attain its goals and objectives. Decision making is the very foundation in the operation of an enterprise. Sound decision making requires the application of appropriate tools. The main objective of this dissertation is to introduce one of the decision making tools available, namely Analytic Hierarchy Procedure (AHP). A Benefit/Cost Analysis as an extension of AHP is also introduced. Comparison between AHP and other methodologies, highlights the benefits and shortcomings of AHP. A comparison list was also generated to highlight the differences with some other decision making tools. Examples are used to illustrate the concept and methodology of AHP and associated issues in decision making. A real life case of a transportation decision by some government agencies using AHP is included. |
