Summary: | In the past, people used to bring compasses, maps and guidebooks around when they travel. Today, thanks to the rapid advancements in technology, those tools have been replaced by one of the most powerful devices in the world now – a smartphone. With the ever-growing number of smartphone users and applications being built on the smartphone, it has become the one of the most important devices needed by any traveler. The purpose of this project is to develop a mobile application for tourists in Singapore, integrating both Location-Based Services (LBS) and Mobile Augmented Reality (MAR). This proposed application also aims to provide an intuitive information interface for tourists to access to information on tourist attractions, local culture, scenery, shopping places and to augment their experience in the real world with elements of virtual reality. The proposed developed application in this project, called TouriAR, is built using React Native JavaScript framework. React Native is a JavaScript library that is developed and maintained by Facebook for building user interfaces on mobile platforms. Using React Native, the application is simultaneously developed and natively rendered for both iOS and Android. |
