Description
Summary:This project involves a numerical study using two dimensional (2D) and three dimensional (3D) finite element analysis for pile reinforced slope with cohesive soil. Numerical study is done using Plaxis 2D and 3D finite element software. 2D analysis is carried out initially to assess the factor of safety of a slope without pile. The result is then used to compare with the results obtained from 3D analyses with and without pile. The body of the soil is modelled using the hardening soil model and strength reduction calculation method is employed to determine the factor of safety. The pile is assumed to be linear elastic. The geometry of the slope consists of a homogeneous 40m thick cohesive soil. In this project the effects of pile location, pile spacing, and effects of pile length, pile diameter and pile head boundary conditions are studied to assess the factor of safety of the pile stabilized slope. Based on the results, the recommended pile location is at the middle of the slope with the s/d (s: center to center pile spacing, d: diameter of pile) ratio range from 3 to 4.
