探讨新移民艺术家国家认同的建构 ：以汪非、刘轩齐、朱宏为例 = Study of Chinese migrant artists' national identity under the lens of Wang Fei, Liu Xuan Qi and Zhu Hong

在1990年与中国建立邦交之后，新加坡通过不同的渠道迎接新移民，来减轻人才短缺，人口老化等温题，并促进我国经济发展。本土国人对新移民的人数逐进增产生顾虑，甚至对新移民产生负面印象。这些顾虑包括，新移民在职场上所带来的竞争，与本土国人文化上的差距，以及国家认同等。 有基于此，本论文有两个主要的目的。其一，针对本土国人通过执政者所发表的言论，网络上的讨论，学术文章渠道来接收有关新移民的信息与建构对新移民的认知情况，带出新移民观点的重要性。其二，针对部分把所有新移民都归类为不认同于新加坡的本土国人，提供另一个参考的面相。With the establishment of formal ties with China in 1990s, Singapore welcomed new Chinese migrants to alleviate the shortage of talents, tackle society’s aging population issue and to promote the country’s economic development. As the number of new migrants increased, native Singaporeans expressed concerns and formulated negative impressions of new migrants from China. These concerns include the competition brought by new migrants in workplaces, cultural differences and the degree in which new immigrants identify with Singapore as their country. The motivations of writing this paper thus to bring across the importance of considering voices and the perspectives of immigrants whilst formulating perceptions on the national identity of Chinese migrants. This is apart from alternate sources such as the comments made the government, discussions amongst netizens in cyberspace or comments made by the academia. Secondly, it aims to provide an alternate point of consideration for some locals who might be fixated on the perception that all new immigrants do not identify Singapore as their homeland. The author will focus on new migrant artists to bring across the abovementioned arguments. There are two main reasons for this choice. Firstly, in both the immigrant studies and local art history fields, there is an apparent lack in research and writing on Chinese migrant artists that arrive in Singapore after the 1990s. Secondly, apart from conventional forms of expressions such as speech or writing, artists are able to express their thoughts and attitudes on their national identity through paintings. Hence in the following essay, the author will bring across the varying degrees in which 3 Chinese migrant artists identify with Singapore, through their verbal expressions and analysis of their paintings.
