Coupled with its strategic location and constant technological developments, she plays a critical role in the global supply chain. Over the last five years, the logistics industry has gone through unprecedented changes with the advent of technology and digitization. Most recently in 2016, the Government of Singapore announced an ambitious plan to revolutionize the Singapore economy. The Committee on the Future Economy proposed strategies in preparation for the upcoming changes. Similarly, the Logistics Industry followed suit with the launch of the Logistics Industry Transformation Map (ITM). A huge part of the ITM’s implementation involved technological changes and digitization of processes. Even though there has been an increase in innovation within the Singapore Logistics industry, there is little focus on how logistics service providers thrive using the latest technological advancements under the challenging operating landscape of urban logistics. The method involved in this investigation consists of qualitative interviews and surveys conducted with industry professionals working in the logistics sector. Feedback, recommendations and comments from all partners were consolidated to identify key overlapping perspectives to have a holistic understanding of the various innovative applications of digital technology amongst different players in the logistics sector. This paper evaluates and challenges existing technological solutions within the Singapore logistics industry. Furthermore, this paper explores the application big data analytics and artificial intelligence in the last mile sector of the Singapore logistics industry, followed by recommendations that can possibly be taken in order for this sector to continue to thrive and revolutionize their processes.
