This technology has gained popularity among businesses as it promotes a higher level of efficiency and convenience among people today. With Singapore moving towards being a smart nation by integrating smart healthcare, homes and building, bringing these technologies onboard hostels on campus will bring about more benefits for the students as well. In this report, we review and implement IoT and smart home automations into a hostel environment to allow students to better adapt and enjoy living on campus. This transformation will bring about convenience and security to the students through remote access control through a mobile application. To achieve these objectives, the project will utilize an internet connection over a WiFi signal with the help of various software and hardware approach. In the hardware approach of this prototype, a microcontroller, NodeMCU, with various components including LEDs, fan module, servo motor and buzzer will be used to simulate real-life electrical appliances while several sensors will be used to collect real-life readings from the environment. This set up has helped achieve a smart light and fan functionality alongside a security door lock system. For the hardware components to perform seamlessly, programming using the Arduino IDE environment has been utilized in the software approach.
