An experiment and a questionnaire were conducted to evaluate evacuation preparedness and safety perception in individuals. The experiment was in the form of a 3D computer game environment which was created on the Unity game engine to assess an individual’s evacuation preparedness in 4 different scenarios based loosely on an office environment. The questionnaire consisted of an individual’s assessment of their evacuation preparedness, safety perception in different rooms, and knowledge of fire safety symbols. 8 participants were chosen to take part in this experiment. This study investigates the viability of the use of a 3D computer game as a tool of evacuation training and suggests improvements to emergency preparedness education and local fire code in Singapore.
