Description
Summary:A common occurrence during the start of a new semester at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) is the sight of scores of students being unable to locate their classes due to the lack of directions. Students are provided with the address of the classrooms within the timetable provided to them, but given that not all buildings in NTU are demarcated clearly and certain levels are segmented without linking pathways, navigation has become a prevalent issue amongst the less-experienced. It is expected that given the basics of navigation - general direction of heading, distance between the user’s current location to the destination, as well as height elevation difference – students will have an easier time navigating to their destinations. Relying on the popularity and high usage of android applications in the lives of students, the aim of this project is to develop an android application that promotes basic navigation and location sharing from peer to peer. By utilising Google Android GPS services to provide current location updates and hard coding geocoordinates of classrooms into the application, direct path navigation has been implemented. This is supported with interlinking android objects to ensure that whilst the User Interface (UI) remains user-friendly, memory usage by the application is kept to a minimum
