Summary: | In recent years, active fatherhood has become a more commonly discussed topic due to changing mindsets and an increased emphasis on parental involvement. Current academic research focuses on the benefits of active fatherhood on a child’s development and this study seeks to value-add to existing literature by exploring ways in which father’s involvement can be better encouraged. As such, this paper specifically focuses on the effectiveness of Parent Support Groups as a platform to enhance fatherhood involvement. Additionally, this study also provides insight on how the Extended Childcare Leave can further enhance active fatherhood. Using an exploratory sequential mixed methods design made up of qualitative and quantitative data collection, the findings revealed key factors for successful establishment of fathering movements, as well as the potential challenges faced. Having identified areas for reinforcement, the team therefore recommends three policy proposals: (1) More public communication and education on Extended Childcare Leave, (2) Creation of Parent Support Group networks among different districts, and (3) Continuation of seed funding and support under the Dads@School public scheme. |
