Summary: | In this report, the 3D printability of resorcinol-based phthalonitrile (RPN) was tested by mixing with a suitable photoresin (PR) binder that can be UV cured and afterwards thermally cured or carbonized. The char yield and mechanical properties of the cured RPN/PN mixtures were studied to identify the optimal blend ratio. The samples obtained from the fabrication process were characterized using various equipment to study its curability, viscosity and thermomechanical properties. This work has validated the feasibility of using a photocurable binder to enable the 3D-printability of high char yield RPN as technical demonstration for fabrication of carbonaceous structures for myriad applications. |
