Summary: | A calendar is something we look at daily, be it through our phones or a flipping desk calendar. It is so significant, yet it is something we overlook so easily. We rely on calendars to tell us where we are in the year and what is coming up next. Time never stops in a calendar and we as humans are simply revolving our lives around time. With a calendar, people can see time in a clearer perspective, look back at what one has accomplished, and how much one has grown from the experience with time.
With the rise of modern technology, it has very much transformed our interaction with everything around us, from the tools we use to the electronics we have now. However, physical calendars are still used due to the fact that we yearn to re-establish contact with the actual and the real. As much as a synchronized digital calendar on our devices can be very useful, it is always forward-looking and does not remind us how much time is left for the year. There is no sense of “loss of time” and it is always planning for what is to come and not what have been loss.
Hence, by redefining and questioning the function of a calendar, this project aims to bring different perspectives as to how a calendar is perceived. It takes on a conceptual approach based on the prominent key ideas on time and eventually leads to the calendar showing wholeness, growth, and rhythm which give us insights into the system that we live in through the movement in an installation piece. |
