Description
Summary:The purpose of this project is to explore the ways in which Singapore’s unique culinary styles can be celebrated as its own formal method of dining, through the designing of unique dinnerwares that reflect Singapore’s culture and traditions in a modern setting. Through surveys and research, it is apparent that Singaporeans, in particular Singaporean Chinese, have dining habits that differ from the traditional methods, a result of the melting pot of cultures found in Singapore. This is done through a visual exploration of the different materials and motifs that are found in Singapore’s varied food cultures, as well as other iconic motifs and folktales. The final dinnerware sets “”Kampung Chicken” and “Kusu Island“ are my own interpretation of dinnerware that modern Singaporean dinners would identify with and use.
