Exploratory study on perception of employability among Public Policy and Global Affairs (PPGA) undergraduates

Workforce digitisation, the changing expectations of employers, alongside an overall trend of declining graduate employability collectively stipulate research exploration to delve deeper on the topic of graduate employment in Singapore. As an exploratory study on graduate employability, this paper confined its research to the Public Policy and Global Affairs (PPGA) programme of Nanyang Technological University (NTU). The Work-Readiness Integrated Competence Model (WRICM) was adopted as a conceptual framework to identify work-ready competencies. A stakeholder analysis was conducted to gather perspectives regarding skills relevant to the public sector, and a thematic approach was used to condense the findings. This enabled the analysis of recurrent themes, as well as new emergent ones previously excluded in the WRICM. Having identified the key issues pertaining to graduate employability, three recommendations were proposed––(1) compulsory internship programme; (2) adjustments to PPGA curriculum; (3) ministry-based learning.
