Development of an intrusion detection system and the deployment of a honey net
This project explores the implementation of 2 different cyber security measures; the intrusion detection system and the honeynet. The objective is to develop a system containing an intrusion detection system and deploy a honeynet by using Snort and HoneyDrive respectively. In this project, Snort wil...

The objective is to develop a system containing an intrusion detection system and deploy a honeynet by using Snort and HoneyDrive respectively. In this project, Snort will be configured to detect floods of transmission control protocol and user datagram protocol requests. The accurate logging and detection of these distributed denial of service attacks launched by a Low Orbit Ion Cannon will implicate the successful application of Snort. The success of HoneyDrive, on the other hand, is determined by the accurate recording of activities due to brute force attacks using PuTTY. As the world today is becoming heavily dependent on technology, it is crucial for companies and individuals to be aware of not only the security measures that can be implemented, but the threats as well. The success of this project signifies the ability to track the latest hacking trends used by attackers. This enables security developers to analyse and create more relevant security solutions suitable for the ever-changing world.
