Description
Summary:In the current digital world, a large amount of data and information are readily available to a vast majority of people through e-learning or Technology-Enhanced Learning (TEL). TEL is a form of learning or training that is enhanced using technology. It allows learners to learn regardless of their location and time. The learning analytics dashboard plays an essential role in understanding and enhancing learners’ performances in TEL. Well-equipped learning analytic dashboard, which is gaining popularity, gives users insight into their learning process through visualization. Data visualization goes beyond using just charts and graphs to inspect the trends generated. The use of interactive and analytics tools engage users and assist them in making informed decisions as decisions are no longer made based on intuition but on evidence and precise forecast through data analysis. However, Nanyang Technological University (NTU) e-learning platform is lack of such analytic tool in assessing learners’ process. The objective of this project is to use infographic visualisation to build two novel and interactive analytic dashboards to display the progress of the learners over the semester. One dashboard will be used for the educators to monitor learners’ progress over the semester. The other dashboard will be used by the learners to reflect on their learning strategies. Thus far, a web-based application is created to display these dashboards which will offer both the educators and learners an alternative way to review the learners’ progression during the semester. The educators’ dashboard is able to showcase learners results individually, the top and bottom 10% and the average score of the cohort. In addition, it highlights weekly top and bottom scorers. This will enable the educators to compare each learner’s weekly results against the cohort efficiently, filtering out underperforming learners and reach out to them promptly. On the other hand, the learners’ dashboard is able to showcase individual learner’s results against the cohort average score weekly and their overall average score. This will significantly improve the learners’ learning strategies and results as they are able to explicitly see their weaker topic(s). This project can be further customized to value-add to the current NTU e- learning system.
