It was carried out in two phases. In phase one of the study, a questionnaire was administered to a sample of Singapore pre-school teachers and the data collected was statistically analysed. The second stage of the study consisted of focused interviews with six participants who had previously completed the questionnaire. Results indicated high levels of organisational commitment and job satisfaction. Satisfaction with their supervisors and co-workers were two key reasons for the pre-school teachers' overall job satisfaction. However, correlations between the various aspects of satisfaction and commitment were low. The teachers' own accounts help to throw light on this as well as providing some insight into the daily experiences of pre-school teachers in Singapore. Implications of the findings, together with recommendations of possible applications to administrative practices are discussed, along with directions for future research.
