Description
Summary:Heat dissipation of display panel technologies such as Liquid Crystal Displays (LCDs) have always been the topic of much discussion. As modern-day technology strives to achieve a slim form factor, the space allocated to any heat dissipating components are greatly reduced, causing great heat buildup over time akin to greenhouse effect, which may ultimately cause damage to the components. The aim of this report is to determine the amount of heat that is being produced by the electronics within an LCD display assembly, and to come up with solutions to dissipate heat away from the core components as efficiently as possible. A series of physical tests will be conducted using an infrared (IR) camera and thermocouples. Computational methods will also be employed to verify these findings on a case-by-case basis. A thermal model will be made to simulate the original display panel, assigning the proper power values and thermal properties to achieve results as close as possible to real world applications. Furthermore, solutions will be adapted into the design, and will be further tested and compared to the initial condition to determine if said solution brings about better heat dissipation, which will then be subjected to usage in a future market product.
