Description
Summary:Niuyou//Streichfett is an art installation and social commentary on the commercialism of health and wellness pertaining to body consciousness and surveillance. Translated as "spreadable fats" in German, Streichfett, its expanded title in Chinese characters, (妞油 niū yóu) - is a play on words of butter (牛油 niú yóu), synonymous to "girl oil" and a brand new you. As captured in its title, the installation seeks to negotiate and reconcile with dialectic opposing societal concepts of Fat Shaming and Body Positivity, exploring a deeper sociological dynamics of body consciousness in late modern societies, its escalation and consequences. *In lieu of the COVID-19 situation, this physical mixed media installation will feature an indie publication instead of a physical installation. The report will be documenting the ongoing art process and fabrication possible before the Circuit Breaker, - from April to May 2020
