With the benefits it brings to the construction industry such as improved productivity, reduction of on-site manpower, better construction environment and quality control, there is a growing number of projects using PPVC in Singapore. There are requirements and frameworks proposed by the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) and other agencies that PPVC manufacturers and suppliers need to comply with to ensure that their PPVC system meet the PPVC performance requirements. However, there are no specifications and guidelines in the design of connection systems for the PPVC units. In addition, there are limited studies done on the present connection systems in the market. To ensure the overall structural integrity of the building is maintained in this method of construction, a system of Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) system could be implemented to complement laboratory tests. Therefore, this paper investigates the feasibility of implementing a SHM system in connections of PPVC units. Specimens are designed and fabricated to simulate the connection system used on site and then, tested in the laboratory to produce results. This paper provides insight on the structural integrity of buildings that are built with PPVC modules and the reliability of the connection system used for future design specifications and guidelines of connection systems. It also discusses the possibility of implementing a system of SHM for PPVC buildings. The project report will consist of two reports CT21-AB-1 and CT21-AB-2 with this paper being CT21-AB-2.
