Things that go bump in the night : a study of children's fears

This study surveyed the fears of 800 primary school pupils from two government schools and two government-aided schools in Singapore. It reports children's main fears, and how these fears vary with gender, age/level, stream, ethnicity and school type. The children are aged between 8 and 13 years. The children's fears were obtained in two ways: (a) Children were asked to draw what they feared using the "Draw-What I Fear" form (DWIF: *Lam, 1996) and (b) Children were asked to respond to a self-report questionnaire, the "Questionnaire-What I Fear-Revised" (QVVIF-R: *Lam, 1996).
