Summary: | The transport systems in Singapore have undergone several changes and upgrades since the 1980s when the national Mass Rapid Transit was first introduced. At present, Singapore already has 203 km of railway tracks and 9,405 km of roads with more development plans under construction to meet demands up till 2040. Constrained under limited space and conventional technologies, transport system in Singapore will soon face difficulties in providing sufficient transport to the increase in demand as population is steadily rising. Facing the uprising of new technologies and the age of digitalization, Singapore needs to come up with innovative and creative ideas in the transportation sector as well. This can be achieved by developing concept designs to solve the issue of overcrowding transportation system in Singapore. This conceptual study explores alternatives and apply modern technologies that create new methods of transportation that leads to better efficiency and space saving techniques. The study includes how existing public transport infrastructure can be reconfigured to increase capacity, doubled in its use as a transportation route and community space. In addition, the study also covers how we can dedicate infrastructure to support future autonomous vehicles in the city. By identifying problems and targeting areas that can be improved, conceptual designs will be proposed to tackle those problems and improve the pre-existing infrastructure. These concept designs are done with engineering software like SolidWorks for accurate drawings which are then illustrated with visual aids like Cinema4D to provide a more comprehensive understanding of how the concept works. Utilising emerging technologies, Augmented Reality (AR) is used for a more interactive representation of the concept design. These proposed ideas are however only an idealized and conceptual stage without any inputs by the Government sectors such as Urban land planning and Land Transport Authority. |
