Summary:High heel shoes are commonplace in women fashion but although they bring about benefits, they also bring about serious health detriments and safety problems. There are thus viable market for high heel shoes that can adjust their heel height. Such application of adjustable heel height can come from the use of an electronic system within the heel that can be triggered with a smartphone. This document details the design of one such concept where a heel can be extended and retracted by means of electronics with the use of Shape Memory Alloys (SMAs) in the form of a two-way SMA actuator within a Plunger and Cam system. This document presents the methodology of the mechanism to bring about the extension and retraction of the heel. This document also details the design objective results, as well as, the weaknesses of the design and makes the recommendation for future work.
