Parameters used includes hardness values, the distance across the weld specimen and residual stress value graphs. This student has partnered with Professor John Pang Hock Lye, carrying out various tests on the Flash Butt Weld rail to determine the parameters mentioned above. This report documents detailed results of the mechanical tests and microstructural analysis from the specimens provided from the weld joint. Results of the vital parameters were obtained from test methods carried out and supported by the information from the literature review. Based on the results, a conclusion is derived at the end of this entire report.
