Summary: | This paper talks about the comparison of genetics between domestic dogs (Canis lupus familiaris) and domestic cats (Felis silvestris catus), more specifically, genetics that are related to social behaviours. The paper includes basic words and descriptions that would give a better and clearer understanding to anyone who are new to this field and requires some foundation. The identification of genes is not through any new research or experiment but rather through the study and analysing of past research in this area. Social behaviour of animals is a complex trait that has always been an area of interest for scientists in this field. There are many researches done on animals that are known to be “model-social” species, however, in this paper the focus would be specifically domestic dogs and domestic cats. The genes are identified through different genetic markers as every research uses different genetic markers depending on the desired outcome of the analysis. A phylogenetic diagram based on the protein sequencing of a gene (OXTR) is also created. The paper also concludes with a compilation of the chromosomes that are commonly identified in the different research papers that can be used for future studies on social behaviours of the respective animals. |
