Municipal solid waste ash can be considered to have a fly ash and bottom ash component. As land is scarce and landfills are rapidly dwindling, the disposal of the municipal solid waste incineration ash has become a significant economic and environmental issue. One possible solution to the disposal problem would be the reuse of the MSW ash as civil engineering materials. Recycling of the ash will not only reduce the problem of disposal, but can also partially replacing cement in concrete. This project looked into the development of a new binding matrix comprising MSW incineration ash, Ordinary Portland cement and high alumina cements for use in concrete products such as rapid hardened hollow block wall panels. Cement pastes with different percentages of MSW incineration ash cement types were tested on their compressive strengths and setting time to determine the optimal mix proportion.
