Description
Summary:This project aims to analyze the available robotic lawn mowers on the current market, pick up the essential functions from the analysis and eventually provide an autonomous solution to take over the grass-cutting task from the workers. The team set up the primary and secondary design requirements based on the research before proceeding to the design process. The final design had been through two phases of the design process to select suitable electronic and mechanical components. The final solution uses acrylic boards for the casing, standard blade for cutting and continuous tracks as its driving system. It also consists of two detection systems: conventional sensors are applied for tall obstacles detection, and a bumper system is designed to detect short objects. A functional prototype was fabricated to present the concept of the solution. It has been tested on the school lawn and successfully achieved the primary requirements. Nevertheless, it still requires further research and development to improve the machine and replace the conventional method.
