Summary: | In today's world of wonder and uncertainty, the future becomes unpredictable. The unknown draws people into infinite possibilities of the future, thus we should seek more knowledge to fully realize these possibilities. But can the unknown be equated to possibilities? Our past gives birth to our present life, and the present shapes to a certain future. If such is the case, then our future will likely to be certain but then again, how would it be possible to have so many possibilities? So does this so-called variety of possibilities stem from our inadequate and insufficient comprehension of the past which stimulates hallucination about an extensive range of hypotheses about the future? Maybe when life begins, the future had already been decided. The family one was born into, the education one received, and even the friends one had, were already identified. Every stage is closely related. If so, the past, the present and the future may be certain, and the hypothesis of the infinite possibilities of the future is nothing more than a facade.
“It happens” is a reconciliation between the author and himself which was mainly achieved through artistic expressions in this workpiece. Through the imagination of the past and future, the author attempts to appreciate his own imperfect understanding of the past. In this thesis, questions were raised on whether we should continue to force ourselves to pursue and realize the so-called "better" forms of life by recognizing the imperfections of the past; It was also discussed whether the understanding of the past and the future abstained one from truly experiencing oneself, even cognizing of one’s own needs and desires. If so, is it a better way to let things run its natural course? To truly understand oneself, what are the things that we should preserve and what are the things that we need to forsake? This work includes a spatial experience through virtual reality and a series of computer graphic images. |
