Description
Summary:Television broadcasting is not a simple business. From regulatory issues encompassing censorship to copyright and advertising to access, to marketing and programming to technological change and training, the industry is a complex one by anyone's definition. The provision of information resources to meet these needs therefore represents a major challenge. A brief background on the Asian broadcasting scene is provided as an aid to understanding the complexity of the industry's information needs. The aim of this study is to explore the feasibility of applying bibliometric techniques as a collection development tool for an information agency serving the needs of a commercial broadcast organization. As the literature review revealed, two complimentary bibliometric methods were adopted as a means for more effective evaluation of results for collection development purposes. They were: a citation analysis of the mass communication journal Media Asia and "journal demand analysis of the Television Corporation of Singapore's (TCS) Central Library's 'Current Library Awareness'(CLAWS) contents listing service".
