One of the indirect impacts of the Asian Financial Crisis was the "Kerusuhan Mei 1998" in Jakarta. The Jakarta May 1998 ethnic riot was another ethnic riot that launch an attack against Indonesian Chinese community. Economic gap was a common reason that often the riot. But, the most problematic fact that arises from Jakarta May 1998 ethnic violence is that it was triggered by an economic frustration as a result of the Financial Crisis, yet, the violence did mot seem to erase the 'legendary' wealth disparity between the Chinese and the local people. |
