The author will first examine the different characteristics of each generation and the lack of understanding between the respective generations, thereby accounting for the conflicts that occurred between each individual. Besides generational differences, cultural differences form another contributing factor to the difference in mindset in different individuals. For instance, western values are often associated with individualism whereas eastern values are usually associated with collectivism, thereby setting up a divide between individualism and collectivism when western values are studied against eastern values. Apart from thinking in the shoes of another individual to understand their views, one should also attempt understanding the different values encompassed by different cultures and thereby embrace or even overcome the conflict between individuals. The youths in Einstein and Einstein and The Farewell have contributed to their family’s harmony through compromise and in the process, attained growth. Finally, the author will illustrate how the youths have managed the generational and cultural divides despite being undermined, eventually assimilating into society via their inward reflection.
