Description
Summary:The Papua province is a territory whose political status has long been subject to debate. Papua first appeared as a part of the Netherlands East Indies. This situation changed following the end of the Second World War, when the Netherlands retained Papua after Indonesia won its independence on 17 August 1945. In the Round Table Conference in 1949, The Netherlands transferred over Papua territory to Indonesia but its political status would be determined within a year through negotiation between the Netherlands and Indonesia.
