Summary: | As society progressed and become more affluent, more and more wastes are being generated. Besides accelerating the depletion of natural resources, the dumping of waste is also a pressing issue. In land scarce Singapore, the government is already facing challenges in finding and expanding landfill for dumping waste.
Education being an important pillar of national agenda in helping to shape the mindset of the younger generation should inculcate a spirit of sustainable living. As such, projects or practical works that involve the use of materials should leverage on use of recyclable resources while promoting learning in the subject area of interest. To stimulate the interests of students in robotics and to instill an environmental green mindset, we proposed the building of a remote-controlled amphibious vehicle. The structure of the vehicle will be based on discarded water bottles and the vehicle will be versatile in being able to travel on land as well as water. The control of the vehicle will be through Wi-Fi. Through this hands-on cost-efficient project, students will learn about robotics and develop an environmentally green mindset. We believe and hope that by engaging students in this build-and-learn experience, it will help to nurture responsible future engineers inculcated with a mindset of sustainability in their practices. |
