Summary:Singapore is positioning itself to be a knowledge-based economy. The country needs a group of trained information professions in order to succeed in its goal. The Division of Information Studies, School of Applied Science, Nanyang Technological University, has revised its Master in Information Studies curriculum in 1998 in order to align itself with the needs of the economy. The objectives of this study are to develop a profile of applicants which were attracted to the Master in Information Studies programme and to identify what the applicants to the programme hope to achieve from attending the programme as well as their career goals.
