Many schools employ the use of a LMS to facilitate learning for students attending. Nanyang Technological University, for example, uses Blackboard which is one of many LMS out there that allows a smooth delivery of course materials to students and serves as a convenient tool for the teaching body and students to exchange information/ feedback. LMS aims to provide access to educational information easily, track a learner’s progress while also making it easier for educators to upload relevant announcements/ learning materials efficiently. LMS serves as a bridge between the school and the student in the form of information dissemination and feedback through the conducting of quizzes/ assignments on LMS platforms. LMS also aims to engage students in a more proactive approach into their own learning, promoting students to take on a more active role in their own learning. And therefore, in this report, a discussion of how an LMS can provide a platform to facilitate active learning will be provided. An analysis of a few LMS will be evaluated in terms of whether they provide a good platform to engage students in active learning. There will also be a discussion of how LMS can be improved with the use of social media and analytics to actively track the progress of students and provide help to students where needed based on the use of these new features.
