Although The CyberTimes may not have reached all its lofty ideals, it has had numerous breakthroughs in the past year since it was first conceived. For one, it is Singapore’s first on-line community newspaper. It serves to reinforce community ties in Tampines, which is consistent with the development of Community Development Councils (CDCs), as well as playing a part in Singapore’s IT2000 plan. This report tells of the rationale behind The CyberTimes’ conception and how it fits into the landscape of the press in Singapore. It also tells of the painful stages of birth and infancy The CyberTimes had to go through. Finally, it tells of the future we as parents hope it will grow into.
