As the country with the first confirmed case, China has received many criticisms regarding their ability to contain the pandemic. It is also not difficult to find traces of criticism of the Chinese living overseas. In fact, when we look at their history, it is not new for China to experiences such criticisms. China and her people have also suffered from the "Yellow Peril Theory" and "China Threat Theory", which negatively portrayed China as a scourge endangering the operations of the world order. Therefore, the key lies in whether traces of the "Yellow Peril Theory" and the "China Threat Theory" can be found in the thoughts towards China during the pandemic. This paper will examine the speeches from leaders of the World Health Organization, the United States, China and Singapore, and their official press releases and news articles that discuss their views on the pandemic. Thereafter, the paper will analyse whether their speeches contain sentiments which are influenced by the "Yellow Peril Theory" and the "China Threat Theory".
