Description
Summary:The roles of Singaporean men and women have progressed since Singapore’s independence in 1965. Traditionally, Singaporean men were regarded as the main breadwinners of the household, while Singaporean women were expected to be the caregiver of the household. By using local magazines, this thesis will argue that between the 1960s to 1990s, the portrayals of Singaporean modern men and women in these local magazines have been constructed within racial lines that reinforced the patriarchal mindset of the state.
