Summary: | The report presents the development of an active insect trap which can be used as a tool to control the mosquito populations, thereby reducing the transmission of mosquito-borne diseases. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 3.9 billion people in over 129 countries are in danger of getting infected with dengue, of which causes an estimated 40000 deaths and 96 million cases annually. The report begins by reviewing the behavioral characteristics of mosquitoes and the effectiveness of existing mosquito traps as a tool to control mosquito populations. A conceptual idea is then introduced, and discussion will be made to highlight the differences on how the conceptual idea would be suitable as a tool to effectively control mosquito populations. Subsequently, tests will be carried out to determine the workability of the idea along with the discussion and conclusion of the results. Recommendations for further experiments and studies will be provided. |
