Summary:During the late 1880s, German physicist Heinrich Hertz created the first antenna in the world using a simple device consisting of metal spheres connected to a rod with metallic square base plates. This simple contraption allowed him to prove that electromagnetic waves could be transmitted and received wirelessly using air as a medium and paved the way for many successive generations of wireless technology to come. This project seeks to design a circular slotted waveguide-based antenna which can operate at 5G frequencies and study its performance for practical applications. Using ANSYS HFSS (High Frequency Electromagnetic Simulation Software) to design the antenna, this project analyses the impact on the radiation pattern in the elevation plane and azimuth plane by the number of slots and dimensions of the antenna. The antenna used in the experiment will be simulated with a modular approach to achieve this.
