Description
Summary:The world enters the 2nd decade since the 21st century, where the whole world is using renewable clean energy like wind energy, waves energy, solar energy etc. Out of our fantasy and back to the reality, Singapore is a small country with limited resources, the government and companies have been working on renewable energy such as photovoltaic system for years.  At the meantime, Singapore government is current working on the research of converting AC distribution system into DC distribution system. It turns on that DC distribution network would be a better solution with higher compatibility, higher efficiency of energy utility and lower cost. In the future communities, DC power generated by photovoltaic system would be boosted by DC/DC converter and goes into DC microgrid. Through this DC distribution network, electricity power would be distributed into DC-compatible loads and extra power can be stored in energy storages. One challenger to build up this microgrid is protections of DC network. Grounding system as one of the most important protection systems, is used to protect circuit, equipment and human by providing low resistance path for fault current flow into the ground; thus, it is worthwhile to digging into the grounding system when studying DC distribution network. The objective of this project is to analyze protection and grounding problems of AC/DC distribution network, and further to provide solutions of the protection of DC networks to support rooftop photovoltaic, energy storages and DC loads.
