Summary: | This final year project details the design of a wideband low-profile antenna that operates in 200MHz to 600MHz for use on Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) for radar applications.
The proposed antenna is an H-plane sectoral design, with a single ridge and ceramic tapering. This design is to be mounted on a ground plane, forming an electrical mirror image of a double ridge antenna through image theory.
This report covers the entire process, including the design procedure, software design and simulation, and the steps taken to optimize the results.
Before the design process is covered, some basic information of the fundamental concepts regarding antenna will be covered to allow readers to have a better understanding.
Several journal papers were studied, which provided a greater understanding of various design parameters. The proposed design will be carried out in the Ansoft High-Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS v2018). In which various tools available allowed for the quick modifications of designs and simulations.
The S-Parameter and the design's radiation pattern at various frequencies were recorded and analyzed through the software. The results obtained showed good return loss and gain comparable to existing commercial antennas operating in a low-frequency range. |
