Summary: | As the maturity of Industry 4.0 is nearing, the rise of information-driven technologies such as Internet of Things, Big Data, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, Artificial Intelligence are revolutionizing conventional industrial methods. Building Information Modelling (BIM) is one such method that is transforming the constructions. Leveraging on Scan-to-BIM and Ground Penetrating Radar, BIM reconstruction can be done automatically and more complete. However, the grounding library has yet to be automated. Hence, this Final Year Project seeks to investigate the means to automate the library creation using Revit API. The scope is narrowed down to the library creation of all elbow fittings under pipe fittings of the pipe system. The elbow fitting designs were depended on a preexisting project provided by the HDB since the BIM reconstruction is based off HDB designs as well. Each of the elbow fittings were first extracted from the project, manipulated the dimensions to the requirements for the library and exported them out in Filmbox (FBX) format. The aim was to automate the process unless major fault error/s occurred. Thus, an automated error checker was created to eliminate errors which considered as insignificant and to run the library creation without interruption. The whole process which includes extraction, changing dimensions, eliminating minor warnings, and exporting each model to FBX is seamless unless critical error/s take place. The extracted FBX model is visualized, and measurements were obtained in Blender. The measurements conformed to the specifications when such elbow fitting is created with Revit2020 UI. This suggests the library creation – elbow fitting can be achieved in Revit API with same result with Revit2020 UI, where each elbow fitting creation has done manually. |
