Description
Summary:The Communication-based train control (CBTC) was used as the core communication system to enable the trains to communicate to prevent collisions from occurring. However, monitoring the CBTC signal power level on the tracks was not visible. Not knowing if there is potential interference that could cause a low signal power level. Interference might cause by the surrounding devices such as Wi-Fi routers and CCTV at the stations or along the train tracks during operation hours. Which might lead to the failure of the train system. With technology getting more advance, it is desirable to use it as an advantage. Almost everyone owns a computer or smartphone which enables them to access useful information. Imagine the convenience of being able to monitor the signal power level throughout the day with a click or tap away from these smart devices. This will allow the operators to identify the symptoms of a system failure. Giving the operators ahead of time to troubleshoot the potential disruption that can occur before the system becomes faulty. This report consists of the development of the mobile and Website application. The goal is to allow the operators at SMRT to monitor the spectral health of the CBTC signal at the respective train lines, through their smartphones or computer. The applications will send a notification to the user's phone when it detects a medium risk or a high risk of signal failure, alerting the user in real-time. In addition, the applications also provide planning capabilities to aid the operators in planning to improve the access points coverage. This is important as the train is a form of transport service that is a necessity to many Singaporeans as well as tourists to travel around the county daily. This report includes detailed planning and the process of the development of the applications. Providing both mobile and website application results that monitor the CBTC signal power level accurately. The report will also provide the logic flow of the applications as well as simulation.
