Summary: | Research and development on fiber lasers have attracted more interest in comparison to the other kind of lasers. This includes solid, gas, dye and semiconductor lasers. In the case of fiber lasers, amongst the different rare-earth ions used for special doped optical fibers, Erbium-doped fiber lasers have gained popularity over the years.
This study will investigate the method of achieving passive mode-locking from a nonlinear polarization rotational technique in a single mode fiber ring laser. It will use two different polarization isolators, dependent and independent, to witness fundamental solitons forming when it reaches mode-locking gain saturation. With the adjustment made to the experiment setup, other findings other than solitons will be observed. |
